Rough Week

This past week has just been one of those weeks.  It's felt very long with some trauma and sickness thrown in for fun.

This past weekend we went to a cabin with my family at a state park.  We had a great time being together and playing games, and the girls loved seeing their grandparents and aunts and uncle, and still adore cousin Abby.  On Saturday night, the girls were jumping around on a mattress on the floor, and Emma fell into a windowsill and hit mouth first.  There was lots of blood and trying to figure out exactly what was hurt/broken, and at some point Emma stuck her finger in her mouth, and suddenly her front tooth was gone.  Thank goodness for my parents being there, because I was about ready to seriously have a freak out moment.  My Mom called her brother who is a dentist, and he basically said there wasn't a whole lot we could do, just get the bleeding under control, and most likely her permanent teeth would be just fine.  It was a rough night, Emma was obviously in pain, but after a blessing she slept through the night and was almost back to her normal self the next morning.  It took a few days for David and I to get over the trauma of seeing Emma go through that, but she is doing really well now.

I took her into the dentist yesterday just to make sure there wasn't anything we needed to worry about, and he told us pretty much what we already knew.  He did mention that her tooth next to the one she lost seemed a little loose, so it might discolor eventually.  It's so sad to see her adorable little smile without a front tooth now, but she is just the same little ball of energy and sweetheart as before, I just adore her.

Still trying to figure out why Emma thinks "smile!" means "squint your eyes at the camera".

After the excitement of the weekend, we were looking forward to having a quiet week to recover.  Unfortunately on Sunday night, Emma woke in the middle of the night with a viscous stomach bug.  She threw up constantly for about 7 hours.  It was the first bug she's ever had, so at first we thought it might be just a result of the trauma.  However, on Tuesday, when Molly came home from school, she and I both started throwing up as well.  Again, it lasted for about 7 hours, but it was a horrible 7 hours.  David has so far been spared, and we're just praying it stays that way.

Here's to hoping next week has a little less excitement!

Adjusting

We moved from Ames to Davenport a couple of weeks ago so David could start a new job.  It's been a slow process getting settled...not much gets done since I've still be fairly sick with morning sickness.  But things are slowly finding their way to permanent homes.

The first rooms that we got put together were of course the girl's bedrooms.  We wanted them to feel at home as soon as possible to make the transition easier.  For the first time, they get their own rooms.  It's been a bit of an adjustment, for many reasons, but we are finally getting into a routine.

We decided this would be a good time to get Emma transitioned to a toddler bed.  It has been a complete nightmare to say the least.  I knew it was going to be more difficult than Molly, who never had any problems staying in her bed, but I wasn't quite ready for just how hard.  Emma was pretty excited and willing to get in, but the minute we said good night, she hopped out and thought it was party time.  We realized that we had to sit on the floor at the end of the bed and wait until she feel asleep, otherwise she wouldn't stay in bed for longer than 30 seconds.

We have since moved on to putting up a gate in her doorway (not just to keep her in her room, but so that we don't have to worry about her wandering the house or falling down the stairs in the middle of the night).  With that and a little bit of time, I think she's starting to get it.

Emma adores Minnie Mouse.  She loves her Minnie bed.

This is pretty much everything in Emma's room.  Once the baby comes, it will join her in here, but for now, it's pretty sparse.

Molly's room.  She loves having it all to herself!

"Emma funny!"

In the last month or so, Emma has suddenly expanded her vocabulary, and talks non-stop.  Obviously some of this vocabulary is technology related, since she plays the iPod touch and computer.

The other day I had the talk show Ellen on for a few minutes, and as a guest was walking out, they played the song "Call Me, Maybe", one of Emma's favorites.  She was so excited, then pretty bummed when it cut off and didn't finish.  I told her it was all done, and she looked at me very seriously and said "Call Me, Maybe is yoding (loading)."

Surprise!

A couple of months ago we received a big surprise...we're expecting!!  We had figured another baby was not in the cards for us right now, due to health insurance and financial reasons.  Even though David's job at John Deere was amazing, and he made some pretty good money, because he was a contractor, we didn't get very good benefits.  So we figured we would have to wait until David found a permanent job with benefits somewhere before we could add to our family.

Well, I guess someone else had other plans for us, because a baby is on the way.  This has resulted in some hurried job searching, and another move across the state, and of course some emotional stress, but everything always seems to have a way of working out, doesn't it?  We are getting used to the idea, and are pretty excited.
